Warrant Sweep 2 06/15/99
HAWAII COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT
SOUTH HILO PATROL DIVISION
MAJOR DAVID KAWAUCHI
JUNE 15, 1999
Big Island police officers and state deputy sheriffs served 44 warrants Tuesday (June 15, 1999) as part of their week-long sweep to reduce the number of outstanding warrants.
Tuesday’s joint state-county operation brings the number of warrants served during the past two days of the sweep to 104.
On Tuesday, 23 warrants were served in South Hilo, nine in Puna and 12 in Kona.
Before the sweep started, there were 2,737 outstanding warrants on the Big Island. The deputy sheriffs are helping Big Island police officers make a sweep of the South Hilo, Puna and Kona Districts to reduce the backlog.
So far, the sweep has resulted in 53 warrants being served in South Hilo, 22 in Puna and 29 in Kona.
The Police Department is urging residents who know there is an outstanding warrant on them to turn themselves in to the nearest police station. Doing so will avoid being served a warrant at their residence or place of work.
Residents who want to find out if they are wanted on an outstanding warrant should call 961-8805.
