Twenty-nine basketball teams, composed of 145 youths aged 6 through 18, competed in the “Click It or Ticket” 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament held on Saturday, May 8, and Sunday, May 9, 2004, at Kekuaokalani Gymnasium in Kailua-Kona.

In the 8-and-Under Division, Stingrays upended Piopio Bears 11-7 for the championship. Konawaena finished third.

In the 9-10 Division, Konawaena 2 edged Warriors 8-7 to claim the title. Imua finished third.

In the 11-12 Division, Stingrays 1 ousted Imua 15-10 in the title game. Stingrays 2 finished third.

In the Boys High School Division, Stingrays 2 defeated Stingrays 1 15-12 to claim top honors. Pai Ka Nalu finished third.

In the Elementary Girls Division, Warriors out played Kamehameha 8-4 for the title. Konawaena finished third.

In the Intermediate Girls Division, Stingrays 1 outlasted Stingrays 2 12-8 in the finals. Imua finished third.

The East Hawaii “Click It or Ticket” 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament is scheduled for May 22-23, 2004 at Papaikou Gymnasium. Over 80 teams have entered.

“These tournaments are the kick-off for our ‘Click It or Ticket’ enforcement mobilization,” said Sergeant Randy Apele, head of the Traffic Services Section.

“From May 24 through June 6, 2004, officers island-wide will be heavily enforcing the seat belt usage laws. It’s part of a national zero-tolerance campaign to increase seat belt use and reduce fatalities and injuries in traffic crashes.”
