Police are looking for a 37-year-old woman who escaped from sheriff’s deputies shortly before noon Thursday (September 5, 2002) after being transported from the Hilo courthouse to the Hawaii Community Correctional Center.

The escapee was identified as Holly Lokelani Kanakamaikai. She is described as being a Hawaiian, being 5-feet-4 in height, weighing about 125 pounds with a slim build and having brown eyes and long blonde hair. At the time she escaped, she was wearing a pink top with white long sleeves and blue jeans.

Police report that about 11:50 a.m., as a sheriff’s deputy was helping Kanakamaikai out of a van parked at the HCCC facility, the woman fled in handcuffs. She was last seen on Alae Street near the Hilo Terrace apartment complex.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
