During the week of January 1, 2020, through January 5, 2020, Hawai`i Island Police arrested ten (10) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.   

So far this year, there have been 10 DUI arrests compared with 10 during the same period last year. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 16 major accidents so far this year compared with 19 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.8 percent. 

To date, there was 1 fatal crash, resulting in 1 fatality, compared with 1 fatal crash, resulting in 1 fatality for the same time last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
