During the week of February 16, 2015, through February 22, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 139 DUI arrests compared with 189 during the same period last year, a decrease of 26.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 187 major accidents so far this year compared with 245 during the same period last year, a decrease of 23.7 percent.

So far this year, there have been four traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with three during the same period last year, an increase of 33.3 percent.

To date, one fatality was related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (0).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
