Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a vehicle-pedestrian accident in the Nānāwale Estates subdivision Thursday evening (May 26).

A 34-year-old Pāhoa man reported that he was walking southbound on Nānāwale Boulevard at 7:30 p.m. Thursday when a car traveling in the same direction at a high rate of speed struck him and left the scene.

A Good Samaritan gave a ride home to the victim, who is being treated for minor injuries.

Police are looking for witnesses to the crash and also want to talk to the Good Samaritan, who was driving what may have been a green Subaru Outback.

The suspect’s car was described as a primer-gray four-door sedan, possibly with three occupants.

The case is being investigated as a negligent injury.
