During the week of June 10, 2019, through June 16, 2019, Hawaiʻi Island Police arrested eleven (11) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 528 DUI arrests compared with 536 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 417 major accidents so far this year compared with 603 during the same period last year, a decrease of 30.8 percent.
To date, there were 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 12 fatalities, compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities (two of which had multiple deaths) for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 7.7 percent for fatal crashes, and 20 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
