During the week of October 12, 2015, through October 18, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 27 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, there have been 849 DUI arrests compared with 923 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,215 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,259 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.5 percent.
So far this year, there were 16 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 10 during the same period last year, an increase of 60 percent.
To date, nine fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (4).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
