Police assigned to be in place for the TMT protestor blockade and encampment on Mauna Kea access road continue the stepped-up traffic enforcement efforts on Daniel K. Inouye Highway (Route 200) which began on (August 15). 

The continuing efforts of police during the new weeklong period covering last Thursday (November 28) to Wednesday (December 4) has resulted in the issuance of an additional 436 traffic citations and 2 suspects arrested for 2 offenses. The 436 citations were categorized as follows:

The Disorderly Conduct offense originated from the arrest of a 37-year-old male suspect creating a safety hazard to passing motorists standing in the roadway on Daniel K. Inouye Highway at the intersection with Mauna Kea Access road behaving aggressively and refusing to leave the road.

The combined total of the 16-week long Daniel K. Inouye Highway enhanced traffic enforcement efforts by the Hawaiʻi Police Department stands at 7677 citations issued and 71 persons arrested for 132 offenses. 

The effort will continue for the duration of the ongoing protest situation to promote the safety of motorists and pedestrians alike.
