Hawai’i Island police are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a male pedestrian believed to have been struck by a vehicle on Friday evening, December 30, 2022, in Hawaiian Beaches.

On Friday evening, shortly after 9:30 p.m., Puna patrol officers responded to the intersection area of Kahakai Boulevard and Kaku Street, in Hawaiian Beaches, for a reported unknown type of disturbance. Responding officers determined that a green Chevrolet multi-purpose vehicle, believed to be traveling east (makai) on Kahakai Boulevard, struck a pedestrian walking along the roadway. The pedestrian left the area prior to police arrival.

According to witness statements, the pedestrian is believed to be a young local male, wearing a white t-shirt, gold chain, with brown curly hair. He reportedly left in a black pick-up truck, possibly a Nissan. Police believe he may be injured and in need of medical assistance.

Due to the unknown circumstances of this incident, and being that the pedestrian has not been located or identified, the Area I Criminal Investigation Section was assigned to assist in this investigation.
