Hawai‘i Island police have arrested and charged 24-year-old Lane Turner of Ocean View with numerous offenses stemming from a theft of a vehicle in Ocean View.

On Monday, July 12, 2021, Kona patrol officers were conducting patrols on Kaleiopapa Street in the area of the Keauhou small boat harbor when they observed a white-colored Toyota Tacoma with an oversized red camper parked in the area. Officers observed an adult male, later identified as Lane Turner, seated in the driver’s seat. A check of the vehicle’s license plates revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision between July 7, and July 8, 2021.

Turner was placed under arrest for two criminal contempt of court warrants and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. He was transported to the Kealakehe police station while detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section continued their investigation.

After executing a search warrant on the stolen vehicle, detectives recovered items that were reported to have been stolen from three separate unauthorized entry into motor vehicle incidents, all of which had occurred in the Kona District.

Turner appeared in Kona District Court on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 in response to the Criminal Contempt of Court warrants. On Wednesday, July 14, 2021, after conferral with the Hawaii County Prosecutor’s Office, Turner was charged with three counts each of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and theft in the third degree and one count each of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information. Total bail was set at $11,500.

He remains in custody at the Hawaii Community Correctional Center pending his preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday, July 15, 2021.
