MEDIA RELEASE

Kona police arrested a male suspect Saturday (November 3, 2001) who allegedly had just tried to rob the Lanihau Branch of the First Hawaiian Bank in Kona.

The suspect was identified as Sheridan Kuhl, 25, of a Coffee Estate Road address in Captain Cook, South Kona. Kuhl was arrested for one count of attempted robbery and two counts of terroristic threatening.

Responding to an 11:22 a.m. report of a robbery in progress, Kona police arrested the suspect after he ran from the bank.

An investigation determined that a local adult male entered the bank, brandished a dagger, jumped onto the customer counter and demanded money from the tellers. When his attempt failed, the suspect then ran out the door, where he was confronted by responding offices and placed under arrest.

The suspect is being held in the Kona police cellblock pending further investigation by Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives.
