Media Release

In conjunction with the national “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement campaign, HI-PAL held two “Click It or Ticket” events to provide education and encourage seat belt use for youth and adults.

On the weekend of May 31-June 1, the “Click It or Ticket” High School Basketball Championship was held at Pāpaʻikou Gym. One hundred seven youths from 12 teams participated in the tournament with Kohala running past the Kona Stingrays 66-40 to claim the championship. Kealen Figueroa led Kohala with 15 points. Tolby Saito scored 25 for the runners-up.

On the same weekend, HI-PAL and B-Elite co-hosted the Honomū Fun Day Click it or Ticket tournament. Fifty-five youth from eight teams participated in the event. Ballaz Inc. was crowned champions of the 8-and-under division as well as the 10-and-under division.

“Click It or Ticket” is the most successful seat belt campaign ever, helping to increase the seat belt usage rate on our island, in or state and nationally,” said Community Police Officer Cory Hasegawa. “Participants of our HI-PAL events as well as their parents pledge to use their seat belts. We use these events to educate and encourage all youth and adults to please buckle up. It saves lives.”
