MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE
Police have identified a man who was killed in a one-car traffic accident Sunday (December 9, 2001) in Puna.
The victim was identified as Rigoberto C. Rodriguez, 47, of a Pahoa address.
Police thanked the public for calling in to help identify the driver, who could not be immediately identified.
Sunday’s fatal accident occurred on Pohoiki Road about 0.2 miles east of the junction of Pohoiki Road and Route 132.
Investigators determined that the driver was operating a 1988 Plymouth Reliant that went out of control, ran off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole.
Sunday’s fatality was the 28th of the year so far on the Big Island, compared to 37 at the same time last year.
