Media Release

Big Island police are informing motorist that police will conduct DUI checkpoints islandwide over the Super Bowl weekend.  The effort is part of a national and statewide campaign called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

In conjunction with the upcoming Super Bowl weekend, the Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Traffic Services Section organized a sign-waving event on Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo on Wednesday (February 1) to remind motorist about the dangers of drinking and driving.

The Traffic Services Section was supported by Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), The Impaired Driving Task Force, Boys and Girls Club, Ken’s Towing Service Inc. and Big Island Substance Abuse Council (BISAC).  They delivered the key message for the event:  “Fans don’t let Fans Drive Drunk”.
