During the week of January 28-February 4, 2002, Big Island police arrested 13 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents.
So far this year, there have been 68 DUI arrests, a 32 percent decrease from the 100 arrested during the same period last year.
There have been 186 major accidents so far this year, compared to 202 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8 percent.
There have been two traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to none during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
