During the week of February 7-13, 2005, Big Island police arrested 14 motorists for drunk driving. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic collisions and three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 75 DUI arrests, compared to 122 during the same period last year, a decrease of 39 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 208 major accidents so far this year, compared to 272 during the same period last year, a decrease of 24 percent.
There have been six traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to three for the same period last year, an increase of 100 percent. There have been no alcohol-related fatalities so far this year, compared to two at this time last year, a decrease of 100 percent. There have been no drug-related fatalities so far this year, compared to one at the same time last year, a decrease of 100 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
