During the week of February 19-25, 2001, Big Island police arrested 19 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents, and one was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 154 DUI arrests, a 27 percent decrease from the 210 arrested during the same period last year.
There have been 349 major accidents so far this year, compared to 332 during the same period last year, an increase of 5 percent.
There have been no traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to six during the same period last year.
