During the week of April 16-22, 2001, Big Island police arrested 11 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents and one was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 237 DUI arrests, a 38 percent decrease from the 381 arrested during the same period last year.
There have been 708 major accidents so far this year, compared to 670 during the same period last year, an increase of 6 percent.
There have been 10 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 10 during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on the Big Island.
