During the week of November 22 – November 28, 2005, Big Island police arrested nineteen motorists for drunk driving. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic crashes, and three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there has been a revised total of 954 DUI arrests, compared to 971 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2 percent. The number of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 2,164 major accidents so far this year, compared to 2,244 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4 percent.
There have been 32 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 39 for the same period last year, a decrease of 18 percent. There have been 15 alcohol-related fatalities so far this year, compared to nine at this time last year, an increase of 67 percent. There have been 11 drug-related fatalities so far this year, compared to 11 at the same time last year, a decrease of 18 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued islandwide.
