During the week of March 17, 2014, through March 23, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 32 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eleven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 312 DUI arrests compared with 304 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 381 major accidents so far this year compared with 308 during the same period last year, an increase of 23.7 percent.

So far this year, there have been three traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, a decrease of 72.7 percent.

To date, two fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (1).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
