During the week of April 15, 2013, through April 22, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, there have been 409 DUI arrests compared with 435 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 395 major accidents so far this year compared with 470 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16 percent.
So far this year, there were 12 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 9.1 percent.
To date, three fatalities were related to drugs only (1), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (2).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
