During the week of September 2, 2013, through September 8, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 879 DUI arrests compared with 966 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 934 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,016 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.1 percent.

So far this year, there were 21 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 27 during the same period last year, a decrease of 22.2 percent.

To date, 10 fatalities were related to drugs only (5), alcohol only (1), or a combination of both (4).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
