During the week of December 15, 2014, through December 21, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Two of the drivers where under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 1,127 DUI arrests compared with 1,303 during the same period last year, a decrease of 14.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,491 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,298 during the same period last year, an increase of 14.9 percent.
So far this year, there were 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 25 fatalities during the same period last year, a decrease of 56 percent.
To date, six fatalities related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (3).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
