Big Island police seized a total of 6,099 marijuana plants during a four-day sweep as part of its continuing “Counter-Cannabis Field Operation.”

The marijuana eradication operation was conducted Tuesday (December 7, 1999) through Friday in the Orchidland, Paradise Park, Mountain View and Kurtistown areas of Puna; the Panaewa and Hakalau areas of South Hilo; and the Ninole area of North Hilo.

Joining Big Island officers in the marijuana eradication enforcement effort were personnel from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Hawaii Air National Guard and State Department of Conservation and Resources Enforcement.

On Friday, vice officers acting on a search warrant recovered 131 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to 3 feet at an Orchidland subdivision residence. An investigation is continuing.

There were no arrests made, nor were there any unusual incidents reported during the operation.
