Kona police are seeking the public’s help in solving the theft of fishing equipment during a burglary last week in Opiihale, South Kona.

Officers said that sometime between Thursday (March 1, 2001) and Saturday, a thief or thieves burglarized a home and stole $3,800 worth of fishing equipment.

Missing were five Penn reels and four custom rods, two of them Jeff Andrews rods.

Anyone with information about the burglary, the identity of the thieves or the whereabouts of the missing fishing equipment is asked to call Officer Sean Smith of the Kona Patrol at 326-4646 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. The identity of callers is kept strictly confidential.
