Twenty-three teams participated in this first-time event in the following age divisions: 5-6, 7-8, boys 9-10, boys 11-12, boys 13-14, girls 12 and under, girls 14 and under.
The winners were: 5-6 mix champs, Menehune Warriors; 7-8 mix champs, Hawaiian Island Athletics; 9-10 mix champs, Big Island Hoops; 11-12 boys champs, Warriors White; 13-14 boys champs, Hawaii Warriors; 14 under girls champs, Keaukaha; 12 under girls champs, Keaukaha.
“Although expectations for team participation were higher than those who did participate, the smaller number of participating teams made for a comfortably run tournament,” said Officer Joseph Botelho Jr., who coordinates HI-PAL. “Ben Pana and the Keaukaha Sports Program were a valuable asset to the HI-Pal Program by providing the necessary referees and the scorekeepers for this event, which enabled the tournament to run smoothly.”
Randy Kurohara and the staff at Creative Arts provided the participants, supporters, referees, scorekeepers and additional helpers with a commemorative “Halloween Havoc” T-shirt, which was well received by all.
Plans for next year’s “Halloween Havoc” are already in the making.
