Police are asking for the public’s help in solving a burglary in which koa furniture was stolen from a house on Kanoelani Street in the Waiakea Homestead area of Hilo.

Sometime between early December 1999 and February 13, 2000, an unknown suspect or suspects broke into the vacant house by prying open the back door and stole the furniture.

Among the items stolen were a curly black koa rocking chair, a curly black koa round table about 36 inches in diameter, a curly black koa settee 8 to 9 feet long and a koa guitar. The estimated value of the stolen items was not immediately determined.

Anyone with information about the burglary or the identity of the thieves is asked to call Detective Duane Rapoza of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2273.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
