Hilo police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the occupants of a stolen car involved in a police chase and collision early Sunday (May 23, 1999).

The car, a 1994 Toyota four-door sedan, had been reported stolen on Friday, May 14, 1999, from a Terrace Drive address.

It was later involved in a chase with a police car about 2:45 a.m. Sunday in Hilo’s Panaewa area. The car, which had stolen license plates with the number HVS 575, turned around on South Kalo Road, struck the pursuing police car and escaped. It was later found abandoned.

Anyone with information about the identities of the persons who stole the car or of the occupants is asked to call police at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
