MEDIA RELEASE

Continuing their efforts to combat the Big Island’s “ice” problem, the West Hawaii Ice Task Force executed 10 search warrants and arrested eight adults for various drug offenses during the first week of February 2005.

Assisted by officers of the West Hawaii Vice Section and Airport Smuggling Unit, the warrants were executed on alleged drug dealers, their residences and motor vehicles.

The warrants resulted in the recovery of more than two ounces of crystal methamphetamine, or “ice,” small amounts of cocaine and dried marijuana, drug paraphernalia, controlled pills and a firearm. In addition, $16,357 in cash and three motor vehicles were seized for possible forfeiture.

On Wednesday (February 2, 2005), police arrested Joseph Jardine III, 36, and Emma Yates, 21, both of Holualoa, North Kona.

Jardine was charged with two counts of promoting dangerous drugs and two counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also arrested on three outstanding contempt of court bench warrants and is being held in the Kona police cellblocks in lieu of $14,600 bail.

Yates was charged with one count each of promoting dangerous drugs and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. She is being held in the police cellblock in lieu of $4,000 bail.

Freed on bail for previous drug offenses, Jardine and Yates were also charged with separate counts of violating the conditions of their release.

Also on Wednesday, Tammy Lyn Ayau, 37, of Kailua-Kona, was arrested and charged with four counts of promoting dangerous drugs and two counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. Ayau was released from custody after posting $15,000 bail.

On Thursday, Noe Jim Raquinio, 24, was arrested when search warrants were executed at a residence in Kailua-Kona. Raquinio was charged with two counts of promoting dangerous drugs and two counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released after posting $20,000 bail.

Individuals arrested at the Kailua-Kona residence for drug offenses, but released pending further investigation were Katharine Ann Raquinio, 29, and Robert Zachary Dosett, 29, both of Kailua-Kona.

On Friday, police arrested a Ka’u couple after executing a search warrant on their residence in Naalehu.

Melvin Deperalta, 48, was charged with two counts of promoting dangerous drugs, one count of promoting detrimental drugs and two counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. Firearm charges against Deperalta are pending. He is being held in the police cellblock in lieu of $8,050 bail.

Tessie Aniban-Deperalta, 42, was arrested for various drug offenses, but released pending further investigation.

The telephone numbers for the ice and drug tip hotlines are 329-“ZERO-ICE” (329-0423) in West Hawaii and 934-“VICE” (934-8423) in East Hawaii.
