A male suspect robbed the KTA branch of the Bank of Hawaii in Keauhou Wednesday (December 24, 2003) and got away with an undetermined amount of cash.

Responding to a 9:40 a.m. call, Kona patrol officers determined that an unknown male walked up to the bank branch window located in the KTA Super Store and presented a note demanding cash from the teller. The robber then left the store with an undetermined amount of cash.

Witnesses said they saw no weapon, nor was anyone injured during the incident.

The suspect was described as being a male in his late 20s or early 30s, being 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 in height, weighing 180 to 200 pounds and wearing a long-sleeved shirt, shorts and a baseball cap.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery or the identity of the witness to call the West Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section at 326-4207 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
