MEDIA RELEASE

The Kealakehe Police Station is looking for qualified persons to act as interpreters for several languages.

Police currently need translators for the Spanish, Marshallese and Vietnamese languages. Additional translators for French, Laotian, Samoan, Tongan and the Filipino dialects of Tagalog and Ilocano are needed.

Translators may be needed during irregular hours and may have to deal occasionally with highly emotional and stressful situations.

Translators are occasionally needed to help officers interview victims, witnesses and suspects who speak foreign languages. Duties may include courtroom testimony and translation of legal documents.

Translators receive a minimum of $40 per callout. Most calls require less than two hours of actual translation time.

Anyone interested in becoming an interpreter for the Police Department should call Lieutenant Glenn Nojiri at the Kealakehe Police Station. The number is 326-4646.
