Media Release

Big Island police are investigating a robbery Thursday morning (August 5) above the Kailua View Estates subdivision in Kailua-Kona.

Kona patrol officers responding to a 2:45 a.m. call made contact with a 25-year-old Kailua-Kona man. He said he had been at a Kailua-Kona nightclub the previous evening and had made the acquaintance of a group of seven or eight men. He left with them in what was described as a silver or white older-model pickup truck with an extended cab and a six-inch lift.

The truck stopped on Hienaloli Road, also known as “Guava Lane,” where one of the men confronted the victim with a knife and demanded his wallet. The victim fled to the bushes and was struck on the head from behind and knocked unconscious. When he regained consciousness, his wallet, backpack, keys and a baseball cap were missing. He was treated for his injuries at Kona Community Hospital and released.

Police ask that anyone with information about this case call Detective Tyson Matsumura at 326-4646, extenstion 277, or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
