MEDIA RELEASE

Community police officers and personnel from the Division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement (DOCARE) kicked off Project PAU, a crackdown on underage drinking.

On Friday night (July 6, 2001), police and DOCARE officers arrested two adults and a juvenile in Wailoa State Park for liquor violations.

A DOCARE officer also issued citations to two other adults for possession of alcohol in a state park. DOCARE is a division of the State Department of Lands and Natural Resources.

On the same night, a crime reduction unit comprised of Juvenile Aid Section officers arrested three adults and two juveniles as part of their enforcement efforts.

Police will continue the crackdown on underage drinking throughout the remainder of the year in an attempt to stop underage drinkers before they get behind the wheel of a car.

So far this year, Big Island police have made 144 arrests for underage drinking.
