MEDIA RELEASE

A 70-year-old man died Sunday (January 23, 2005) of injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) about three-tenths of a mile north of the seven-mile marker.

The victim was identified as Harry P. Hogan, of a Kailua-Kona address.

Responding to a 12:40 p.m. call, South Kohala patrol officers determined that Hogan was riding a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle south when he lost control and the motorcycle ran off the road.

The victim was taken to the North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he later died at 1:51 p.m.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, and police have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The motorcycle death was the first traffic fatality on the Big Island so far this year, compared to none at the same time last year.
