Big Island police seized a total of 9,484 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to 10 feet during the past four days as part of its continuing “Counter-Cannabis Field Operation.”

The plants were seized in the Hawaiian Acres, Fern Acres, Kapoho, Leilani Estates, Eden Roc, Kalapana, Paradise Park, Fern Forest, Orchidland and Waawaa areas of Puna and off Waianuenue Avenue in South Hilo.

Joining Big Island police officers in the marijuana eradication enforcement effort were personnel from the Honolulu and Maui Police Departments, the State Department of Conservation and Resources Enforcement and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

On Wednesday (August 11, 1999), police executed a search warrant at a Paradise Park residence. They arrested a man and woman, both 38; a 17-year-old male; and a 15-year-old female. All were released pending further investigation. At the residence, police recovered 0.6 gram of crystal methamphetamine; more than 2 ounces of dried marijuana, marijuana seeds and 543 marijuana plants ranging from seedlings to 9 feet in height and drug paraphernalia.
