Police seek burglars who ripped off Hilo home 05-29-03

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a thief or thieves who burglarized a Hilo home Thursday morning (May 29, 2003).

Police said the home, located at the corner of West Puainako and Kanoelani Streets, was burglarized sometime between 6 and 8 a.m.

Investigating officers said the door to the carport facing West Puainako had been kicked in and several items taken from the home. Among the missing items were a television set, VCR, microwave oven, antique night stand, a jewelry box with jewelry and the victim’s purse.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the burglary or identity of the burglars or who may have seen a vehicle parked in the driveway between 6 and 8 a.m. to call Officer Vince Sivankeo of the South Hilo Patrol at 961-2311 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
