MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the skeletal remains found August 31, 1999, in the area above Ala Ili Road in the Kalapana area of Puna.

The remains, apparently of a Caucasian male with a full upper dental plate, were found during the excavation of a cinder cone. The results of a forensic examination estimated the bones had been at the location at least five years.

A forensic anthropologist said the man was probably 35 to 45 years old when he died and estimated his height at 5-foot-6.

Police said there was no evidence at the scene of foul play.

Anyone with information about the identity of the man is asked to call Detective Glenn Uehana of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2386 or Hilo police at 935-3311.
