Police seeking public’s help on dirt bike thefts 06-23-03

Police are looking for a thief or thieves who stole four dirt bikes and a sewing machine from a Hilo address.

Police learned that sometime between March 27, 2003, and May 14, 2003, a thief or thieves cut a lock to the garage of a Halai Street home and stole two Yamaha UZ 125cc dirt bikes, two Boulder SE mountain bikes and a Viking sewing machine. The total value of the stolen items was estimated at $14,950.

The dirt bikes were described as blue and white. They and the mountain bikes were also described as in excellent condition.

Anyone with information about the theft, the identity of the thieves or the location of the stolen items is asked to call Officer Darryel Tolentino of the South Hilo Patrol at 961-2311 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
