Police warn of rash of South Kohala vehicle thefts 02-14-05

In response to a rash of recent car thefts, South Kohala police are advising residents to make sure they lock up their vehicles and take the keys with them when they park – even when they park at home.

Police said that since January 22, 2005, there have been eight vehicle thefts and two attempted vehicle thefts in the South Kohala District. Two of the thefts occurred in Waimea, the remainder occurred in Waikoloa Village and at Kohala Coast resort areas.

The following vehicles were stolen:

Police have since recovered the 1994 Subaru, 1990 Civic, 2003 Ford Ranger, 1993 Jaguar and 2005 Chevy Trailblazer.

Police are also asking that anyone with information about the car thefts call Sergeant Floyd Richards of the South Kohala Patrol at 887-3080 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept strictly confidential.
