The Hawaii County Police Department will hold a second public hearing, this one in Kona, on its proposed Administrative Rules and Regulations governing marijuana eradication operations and reconnaissance missions and medical marijuana investigations.

The hearing will start at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2002, at the Kona police station, located at 74-5221 Queen Kaahumanu Highway in Kailua-Kona.

The department held its first hearing on a draft of the proposed rules during August in Hilo.

All interested persons are invited to attend the January hearing and will be given an opportunity to speak.

Those who want to present oral testimony should register before the hearing convenes. Those who are unable to attend may submit their written comments on the subject to the Hawaii County Police Department, 349 Kapiolani Street, Hilo, Hawaii 96720.

Persons who need special accommodations to attend the hearing should call 961-2258 by December 20, 2001. Those using TDD’s may call 961-8267.

Copies of the proposed rules may be obtained from the Vice Sections at the Hilo police station, 961-2258, and the Kona police station, 326-4240, or at the office of Councilman Gary Safarik, 961-8267, at the County Building. Copies of the proposed rules will also be mailed to those who request them and who pay the required fees for the copy and postage.
