The Hawaii Police Department’s summer activity program for teens will wrap up Monday and Tuesday (July 23 and 24) with an assortment of sporting activities at Kamehameha Park in North Kohala.
Teens 13 through 17 are welcome to attend the free program from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. To participate, they must bring a signed permission form and a packed lunch. Soft drinks will be provided.
The Big Island’s Most Wanted Summer Activity Program was designed to provide safe, wholesome, drug-free activities and to foster mentoring between police officers and the island’s youths.
It began June 14 with cooking classes and a spaghetti lunch provided by Merriman’s Restaurant. The most recent activity was a basketball challenge Friday (July 20) at the Honokaa gym. Other events included fishing classes at Laupahoehoe Point, various sporting activities around the island, and a field trip to Hapuna Beach, where lifeguards gave a water safety talk.
