Police looking for a 48-year-old Puna man are warning the public not to approach the suspect, but to call police.

The suspect, identified as James Ipolani Souza, also known as “Honey Boy,” is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Souza is wanted on two bench warrants — one for contempt of court and the other for violation of parole.

Souza is described as being a Caucasian, being 5-foot-7 in height, weighing 175 pounds and having green eyes, brown hair and a salt and pepper mustache. Police said he may be wearing his hair shorter than in the photograph above.

Anyone with information about Souza’s whereabouts is asked to call Detective Lucille Melemai of the East Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2377 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
