Leilani Galdones and Natasha Ludwig scored 14 and 12 points respectively to lead Yo to a 33-19 victory over the Paauilo Tigers Sunday (May 21, 2000) to capture the championship in the Hawaii Isle Police Activities League’s Girls 12 and Under Basketball Tournament.
St. Joseph raced past HI-PAL X-Treme 30-19 to capture third place in the HI-PAL tournament, held at the Boys & Girls Club Gym.
Members of the Yo championship team were: Galdones, Ludwig, Mallory Nitta, Hannah Van De Car, Naneo Hassenritter, Kahala Hall, Kanoe Lyons, Aisha Sueda and Joanna Mattos. Yo was coached by Joseph Martin Jr., Bryant Mokiao and Lance Kekona.
Other teams participating in the tournament were the Honokaa Hoku Stars, Papaaloa, HI-PAL Rush and Waimea Ponekos.
Pool play in two four-team divisions resulted in the top two teams from each pool advancing to Sunday’s championship final. Yo and X-Treme advanced from the Red Division; Paauilo and St. Joseph, from the Blue Division.
