During the period of January 1, 2010, through January 4, 2010, Big Island police arrested 13 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 13 DUI arrests compared with 18 during the same period last year, an decrease of 27.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 10 major accidents so far this year compared with 16 during the same period last year, a decrease of 37.5 percent.

So far this year, there was one traffic fatality on the Big Island compared with none during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
