A 51-year-old Kailua-Kona man was arrested for drug offenses Thursday (October 1) at the Keāhole International Airport.

Investigators from the Area II Vice Section received information alleging that John [corrected name] McCown was smuggling crystal methamphetamine on a flight from California bound for Kona that afternoon.

During the course of the investigation, police served a search warrant on McCown’s bags. There, officers recovered approximately seven ounces of crystal methamphetamine, almost four grams of marijuana and nearly two grams of powdered cocaine. In addition, $1,600 in cash was seized for forfeiture.

McCown was charged Friday afternoon (October 2) with meth trafficking, promoting a detrimental drug, two counts of promoting a dangerous drug and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $100,000.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $25,000.
