…wanted in connection with bar assaults
Media Release
Big Island police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man wanted in connection with a pair of assaults at a bar on Makaala street in the Hilo Industrial area early Sunday morning (January 27).
Police are looking for 26-year-old Joshua Labrador, last known to reside in Puna. He is described as approximately 5-foot-6, 230 pounds, with a heavy build, brown eyes and short brown hair (in contrast to the mug shot above taken in 2001).
South Hilo patrol officers responded to a reported affray in progress at the bar and were encountered by a large group of rowdy individuals, some of whom were challenging others in the crowd to fight. The officers were eventually able to quell the aggression. With the aid of an Electronic Control Device (ECD) commonly known as a "Taser," officers took two men into custody.
Arrested for second-degree assault were 28-year-old Jarrett Labrador and 25-year-old Shane Pacarro, both of Puna. A 33-year-old male patron of the drinking establishment sustained multiple fractures to his lower jaw during the fracas. The victim’s 40-year-old sister was also struck and sustained a deep laceration to her face.
Fire/Rescue personnel took both victims to Hilo Medical Center. The female was treated for her injuries and later released. The male was treated and scheduled to be flown to The Queens Medical Center on Oahu for further treatment.
On Monday afternoon (January 28), police charged Jarrett Labrador with third-degree assault as well as disorderly conduct. He was released after posting $300 bail. That same day, Pacarro was released pending further investigation.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Section are continuing this investigation.
Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may know the whereabouts of Joshua Labrador call Detective Robert Hatton at 961-2380 or the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
