A man died Monday afternoon (November 16) while scuba diving at South Point.

Ka’ū patrol officers responded to a 6:35 p.m. call and determined that an unknown man had been scuba diving at the South Point boat ramp area. Fire rescue personnel had been called and had found the man floating in the water. Upon bringing him to shore, medical personnel determined that he was deceased.

Police ask that anyone who might know the identify of the man call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or Detective Sean Smith at 326-4646, extension 275. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
