A 23-year-old Captain Cook woman apparently drowned while swimming in waters off Ke’ei Beach in Captain Cook on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Karly A. Kojimoto.

Kona patrol officers responded to a 6 p.m. report of a possible drowning and learned that bystanders had heard the victim calling for help, towed her to shore and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Fire Department personnel continued to try to revive her. They took her to Kona Community Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 7:24 p.m.
