During the week of February 12, 2008, through February 18, 2008, Big Island police arrested 24 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 189 DUI arrests compared with 167 during the same period last year, an increase of 13 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 257 major accidents so far this year compared with 309 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17 percent.
So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with seven during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
